OLG were proud to support local Schools and Greenpower at the Green Port Hull Goblins Event.
Electric cars, known as Goblins, were hand-built by Primary School students, and raced at the MKM Stadium on Sunday 14th May.
OLG are one of the original companies to have helped establish Greenpower cars and projects throughout the region, supporting Mrs M Nurse of Healing Primary School, who galvanised OLG and was the “driving” force for the original build in 2016, and supported at the time by Claire Swannick, (this year’s winner of the Renewables “Woman of the Year” at the Humber Business Awards).
The maiden race event was held at the Stadium in 2017, which saw great success for the OLG sponsored cars of Healing’s Primary and Secondary School cars, going onto win in all categories and qualifying for the International Finals at Rockingham Speedway later that year.
The original OLG sponsored team that Mrs Nurse started in 2016 were successful in 2017 and many of whom went on to have success with the secondary school team winning events at Blyton Park and the UK’s first ever Electric Car Street Race in 2019, around the streets of Hull, again competing at the International Finals that year at motor racing’s hallowed Silverstone Circuit.
The Goblin cars were raced by 10 and 11-year-olds students, competing for success with cars from as far afield as Burton-Upon-Trent and Spalding.
OLG, continuing their support of Mrs Nurse and the Healing Primary School, headed off early to get to the circuit for 8:30am for scrutineering, and safety checks to ensure that the car was OK to race. After a few minor adjustments they were good to go!
The car, being one of the oldest cars, was not to be deterred as they won the award for the “Best Presented Team” of the day. The team competed in 3 races, consisting of drag sprints, slalom, and traditional race lapping.
